spree

yes this is an update of my life.

rewinding a little back to the mini shopping spree that took place in the recent trip to JB with the family. whenever we head over, we usually have a guide to bring us around and what not since the older folks prefer that way. however, this time was the first time we head to JB without a guide in a long time. well, the guide became fatbro and i.

the main purpose of this trip was to really explore the numerous malls around and man it was a good trip topping up supply of clothes and what not. spent quite a lot but definitely got way much more than if i were to spend the same among in Singapore. got most of the things needed for CNY just left with a pair of formal shoes.

somehow the end of this year feels much more busier than last year but i guess for a good reason as well. until next time then, cheers.

last month

yes this is an update of my life.

would you believe it, it is December already. time has no mercy, powering through at such a speed. people are slowly disappearing from the workplace as they look to have an enjoyable end of the year. meanwhile i am still in office until next year. quiet time in the office to clear some low priority tasks or things that i have been procrastinating for quite some time.

been thinking quite a lot lately as well. from current concerns to things pertaining to the "what's next". from past experiences to the "what if's". all in all i am still in a happy position.. i think that is what matters most. things can be happening but as long as you aren't letting yourself down, you are fine. what have i accomplished this year? quite a lot but i am also aware of the numerous shortcomings this year as well.

three more weeks to end of 2019 and 2020 will soon dawn upon us. treasuring everyday as always. until next time then, cheers.

$50 gamble

yes this is an update of my life.

so after numerous weeks of procrastination i have done something that i should have done slightly earlier.. submitting my online application of my Masters course. yes, i finally did it and paid the application fee. my bet is down and it is time to see if this gamble is a good one.

apart from that, been so busy especially with a mini "boss" visiting the office during this couple of weeks. but am glad that UK colleagues visit us as we can get to take them around to try the various food and introduce fun things to do. considering it is towards the end of the year and that most UK colleagues will be off from Christmas, we have slightly less than a month to squeeze in as much things to do as possible before then.

yeah, it sounds like a little mad rush but i guess it will be a good one. lots of things to look forward to before the end of 2019.. be it in office or out of office. until next time then, cheers.

hands full

yes this an update of my life.

time and tide waits for no man. been so caught up with the things on hand that i have not keep track of time now and then. let's see where i should begin.

further studies. finally some update from my company on my proposal for further studies. i guess it is an awesome news though compromises have to be made.. it is inevitably anyway. i am just thankful for the support and the opportunity to really take the next big step into personal development. it definitely not going to be a easy journey, especially when i have more than just my full-time job to juggle. technically, i have a full-time job and "part-time" job now.. if accepted, i will be a part-time student as well. bless my sanity.

computer woes. the past two weeks of me being absent from this platform can be partly linked to the rollercoaster rides i have in office. not sure if it is sheer bad luck or not.. when those things hit it is inevitable i have to burn some extra time. so with more weekday nights not being able to have my quality solo time, i had to take some time off from my weekend to really relax/disconnect a little, hence the absence.

the next half of November will be packed too. nonetheless, i guess this is living.. i know i am for one who cannot really be sitting and doing nothing for too long a time. busy is better than bored. until next time then, cheers.

cold and wet

yes this is an update of my life.

got into last week and work has turned a little insane over the week. now am on my official holiday. moved from the office-booked Airbnb to my own holiday Airbnb just yesterday afternoon. as there was a weird gap between the check-out and check-in time, i decided to walk about 5km in the cold and wet weather. thankfully the rain here isn't annoyingly heavy.. usually similar to the case of drizzle/shower in Singapore.

nonetheless, here i am ready to be all tourist in my final week in the UK. hoping that the weather will be good for me to explore the man many places i intend to explore. things here are really expensive.. but i guess given i don't come here often, i shall ignore that fact that i am spending quite a lot a little. of course will be hoping to be back someday soon. until next time then, cheers.

to London

yes this is an update of my life.

two weeks literally flew by and my time in Cambridge is up.. heading to London tomorrow morning. through the past couple of weeks i guess i did really made full use of my time there.. exploring numerous colleges and trying at food places that i have roughly planned.

the peace and quiet here is really much appreciated though i was warned by my colleagues that this atmosphere might be quite different in London. well, not that i mind.. i just only hope for a good weather throughout my stay in London, with not too many wet days especially on days i will be dragging all my bags around. until next time then, cheers.

the chill

yes this is an update of my life.

today woke up with a feeling of extreme chill. checked the maps and it says outside was 6 degrees.. didn't believe it at first since it was 10+ in the past few days. well things got interesting when i stepped out and made my way to work. it was indeed much colder today. lesson: trust Google.

the chill aside, today was a work day of unique schedule.. 90% of my time in meetings. had an interesting strategy meeting as well. quite productive i would say. managed to get some of my initiatives pushed forward as well. however, that would mean slightly more work in the weeks/months to come. apart from that, i too am taking another leap of faith into some management stuff.. no, unfortunately not a promotion but rather extra responsibility. wonder how this will work out though. time will tell.

time really flies. it feels as though i just came to the UK for my work/leisure trip but in fact i am almost halfway through already. nonetheless i think i am still making full use of my time so far. still more exciting things to do and places to explore in the coming couple of weeks. until next time then, cheers.

erotic weather

yes this is an update of my life.

one week into the UK and also one week into Cambridge. definitely loving the cooler weather here as compared to back home. pace of life is pretty different here as well. though the weather is preferred here, i am pretty amused at how erotic it can be. it can be hot and sunshine in the first hour then pouring in the next before going back to hot and sunshine in the hour that follow. i think the comforting thing is that the rain will not be for long.. hence not ruining my plans over this past weekend.

managed to do punting (guided though not me doing the punting), explore numerous colleges in the university, wandered around museums, eating tons of good food. i guess (or rather i hope) i am spending well within my budget. judging from the cash i have in my wallet currently i would think so, hence that's a relief. good break this weekend despite some lingering worries from elsewhere. ready to take on another week, a more hectic week. until next time then, cheers.

longest flight

yes this is an update of my life.

onto the first update of my UK work/leisure trip then.. on the longest flight i have ever taken in my entire life so far.slight over 13 hours. thank goodness i managed to sleep most of the journey despite being a light sleeper. there were like 3 or 4 noisy babies seated within my vicinity plus the noisy flushes from the toilet. i guess these disturbances and rude awakening partly helped me in being able to fall back to sleep.

with me sleeping so much, the 13 hours felt a little quick. before i know it, i have arrived in London. the many changing of train lines soon follow. got to say while signs are generally clear.. the system here is rather messy and i need more getting used to. nonetheless, the first three weeks should not see me traveling a lot since i will be heading to work and my accommodations by foot only. speaking of which.. the first accommodation is cozy. quiet place.. quite a walk from things like supermarket and what not. nonetheless i think it is pretty cool overall. weather is good too. until next time then, cheers.

solo

yes this is an update on my life.

excuse my absence but i shall be more active these few days and will definitely explain my absence in the past couple of weeks. these few days i will be able to update more often as i am currently on my work/leisure trip to the UK. without bringing my personal laptop, i cannot really watch the shows that i follow. so apart from catching up on YouTube, here is the next place can really invest my time in.

okay, actually i will still need some time to plan my wandering around the UK as well but the point is i will definitely be able to be here more often until i head back to Singapore. stay tuned. until next time then, cheers.

life's hard

yes this is an update of my life.

threading in really deep waters these days with so much at times i wonder am i biting more than i can actually chew. i love challenges but maybe my brain has its limits to the amount i can on at a single point. on the brighter side, i will be heading to the UK in less than a month!

life's hard. not that i just realised but just got reminded that this is so. i consider myself as a realist and i accept the fact that there are always somethings that are definitely beyond what i can do. then it circles round back to whether putting in your best is enough and worth it. the endless internal debate soon follow. on one side, yeah no matter what put in your best and take the chances you get, something might turn out great. on the other side, doing that might be exhausting since more than half of the tries might be lead to a failure. then again among the successes, each success is usually better than expected. so.. yeah.. this.. cycle goes on.

for now, i am on the side on putting in my best no matter what. yeah, i admit some hits are quite painful but i don't think it is enough to give up. maybe i am part optimist after all. until next time then, cheers.

1111

yes this is an update of my life.

no, the title isn't commemorating the special time that some would associate with making a wish that you really want to be true. rather, it is to highlight that is the 1111th post on this blog. well, at least for those currently published ones.. did a little clean quite a few years back to have the current ones you see. no worries, doubt there will ever be another such clean up. so indeed the 1111th post.

the past week has been insane. moved to the new office, tackling new responsibilities, managing new expectations. these piled up and i found myself in quite a bit of hectic lifestyle, barely breathing.. but am glad when most of the stuff have been calming down by the end of yesterday. the weekends could not come at a better time. next week there will be quite a few changes in the offices as well. this will be interesting.

been preparing and organising my work-leisure trip to the UK as well. gosh, come tomorrow it will be the month where i will be flying over. time really flies. am very excited yet a little nervous.. mainly partly because how i think i am unprepared for the weather there. nonetheless, trying to fix this by the end of the next weekend. life's interesting like this, always on the edge.. the adrenaline, the shocks your brain sends. until next time then, cheers.

off the plane

yes this is an update of my life.

this update will focus more on the amazing holiday i had over the long weekend (with a few leave days applied) last week in Sydney, Australia. i shall ignore the hectic 2 days i had back at work.

so, the first new continent and also first never-been-to-before country of 2019 was explored. the main motivation/purpose for this trip when my friends and i had this trip idea in mind was to do skydive. this was nearly made impossible thanks to the insane and partially unpredictable weather. we expected the weather to be cold but never expect the strong winds that accompany the chill. winds were so strong that over the long weekend, there was a public notice advising everyone in the area to stay indoors. as tourists, of course we did not want to stay indoors.

managed to explore many tourist-sy places, trying tons of great food. did walk at least 10km each day but i guess those calories burnt were put back relatively easily thanks to our awesome meals. i will only share some photos taken during the trip in a couple of weeks' time. until then, i shall just share one picture from me jumping off the plane.

Sydney and Katoomba conquered. now back home, struggling to adjust back to the hot and humid weather. probably time to plan for my work-plus-leisure trip to the UK soon. until next time then, cheers.

adventure week

yes this is an update of my life.

pretty quick update though.. since i have a flight to catch soon. been so busy with work yesterday and then with travel arrangements and what not over the last few days. nonetheless, glad to be ready for the Sydney trip. been looking forward to this since December last year.

wonder if the things planned out are sufficient. i guess it will be a little fun to get lost a while during the trip anyway. so yeah.. new continent, new country, new experience. may this week of adventure be an awesome one. until next time then, cheers.

world of twos

yes this is an update of my life.

the past week have made me explore the two extreme ends of the spectrum: being in a state of high stress, being in a state of super chill. some many things that require my attention occurring at the same time. i feel  more stretched in all directions than ever this week. there is so much happening in the next few weeks and months as well. while i am more excited, the nervousness gets me at times. the uncertainty, the unknown.. but i guess you aren't living if you keep staying within your comfort zone.

August is unusually the most happening month each year. somehow this is seems to be how the world plan for my birthday month each year. or maybe is partly due to the fact that there are two public holidays next month. coming August, the Sydney trip and Trevor Noah live show. however, this year September/October might be as, if not more, happening. heading to the UK for work and leisure. two countries i have never been to, two continents i have never been to, within two months. how exciting!

well, one step at a time. tackling this seemingly hectic week again head on. until next time then, cheers.

to or not

yes this is an update of my life.

past week has been a really busy week.. was really glad that it is over and i could rest a little more today. somehow work tend to start off slow on Monday and Tuesday but when Wednesday comes, the flood gates would be open. tiring but i felt a good sense of satisfaction. came across an article that one of my favourite professors posted on how you would know you found your calling. forgot to save the link but as i recalled there were quite a few tell-tale signs and one that really stood out the most that i remembered is that if you are working on your calling, you would do whatever you are doing now even if you are not paid or not paid wisely. hmm.. good food for thought.

also work-related, i am at a crossroad pertaining to an internal opportunity. i am still pondering if i should take a leap or not. not much a push available now as compared to the last time i tried something similar. regardless, that would mean i have to think harder this time than the last time. however, i do not have that much of time to make the choice. being a free thinker, instead of looking for divine intervention, i just hope for plain clarity in general.. haha.

time is passing way too fast. there are plans that i thought would happen quite some time later but, hey, then i realised that more than half of them are happening soon. that is really scary but i guess i can only take comfort that i am making full use of each day.. so much so i have lost track on how fast time is passing by.. just hoping important things are not neglected in the process. until next time then, cheers.

destination UK

yes this is an update of my life.

well, would like to share the good news first and if you followed previous posts you would have guessed it from the title of this post. my application to the exchange program at work has been approved and i will be heading to the UK in a couple of months' time.. how exciting! never been there before so it will be even a better experience. moreover, this is the first time ever where i will travel on my own.. this is going to be fun.

back to more immediate updates. finally got started on settling the accommodations for the August trip. not done yet but at least a start. going to stay in the hostels which means money saved with (probably) a more real experience with people of different walks of life. time to keep my eyes peeled on the exchange rate these few days as well.

this weekend has been a real good one.. probably partly due to the fact that my second job of being a private tutor got a reduced time this weekend, allowing me to have more me-time and rest. trip accommodations done (somewhat), plenty of sleep, long walks around the neighbourhood with neighbourhood friends, catching up on movies. ready for a new week. until next time then, cheers.

1-month countdown

yes this is an update of my life.

weekends are too short. i want more personal time for enjoyment and sleep. two days is kind of tricky. on one hand, i want to sleep more. on the other, i think if i sleep too much in the short weekend, i will be wasting it. ohh wells, the vicious internal debate i have every weekend.

nonetheless, into the second half of the year. while there are fewer public holidays, there are more things to look forward to in the second half of 2019. the first one is something coming up in a month's time. trip to Sydney. itinerary more or less planned out.. just left with the accommodation bookings. yeah kind of little late but hoping to get them all done this week.

cannot wait for the trip. new country and new activity to look forward to. until next time then, cheers.

halftime 2019

yes this is an update of my life.

a sudden realisation hit me earlier today.. we are literally halfway through 2019. what have you accomplished so far this year?

ever since days in NUS, i really cannot comprehend how time fly by year after year. each year i will tell myself to keep a mental note that time will fly but each year i will always be taken by surprised by how fast time really is. regardless, the only good thing i can take away is that i don't feel like i wasted the time that has passed. this gut feeling probably will serve as a good indicator of whether i am making use of each day given to me.

so what have i accomplished? right after each surprise, i will have that question in my head. don't worry.. i'm not going to highlight those here because those are for my own mental note (and probably no wanting to leak any shortcomings in the process.. haha). but yeah, halftime check.

for me, as i look to the next 6 months, there is so much more to anticipate. of which, i have highlighted some in the previous post. may we all continue to scale to greater heights as time continues to zoom by. until next time then, cheers.

8 years too long

yes this is an update of my life.

back to office after being away on in-camp training (ICT) this week. first week back and i was playing catch-up for almost the entire week. am excited to be working on few new avenues of my career as well.

one, new statistical method and project. learning never ends. i intend to always keep doing so as long as i am below 50. that's is why i am my plan to take on Masters really soon. apart from that, i am grateful my company has given me the opportunity to learn from my other colleagues on a new channel of dealing with a special "breed" of projects. tons of reading and applying. the slope is steep but that pinch of challenge is always something i adore.

two, cross-office visit. on track to be part of some exchange programme that has been set up recently in my company.. which means i get to travel to the UK (hopefully) really soon. if this were to really come true, i am really excited to meet in person with those people whom i have been working through Skype only. i am also excited to be able to travel to some place new.

third, pro-bono initiative. the first ever pro-bono initiative ended yesterday with blood donation with few of my colleagues. it has been a long 8 years since i last donated blood. the staff was questioning me why it took me so long to go back.. well, his guilt trip struck a chord.. haha. i am impressed with how painless the process was. i remembered being a little uncomfortable 8 years ago. who knows.. maybe tons of things have improved and i am now motivated to donate as often as my body is able to.

well then yet another weekend to catch up with my personal time and recharge before taking on another week that would seem to be challenging. until next time then, cheers.

tyler

yes this is an update of my life.

well this update is sort of the continuation of the previous post i did yesterday. too many things to highlight but my brain did not have the capacity and energy to do so back then so here i am again, topping it up.

of course, moving away from the chat about ICT and work email, and before i go on further, Happy Father's Day to all fathers and fathers-to-be out there. okay, back to business. managed to caught up with the shows and movies i have on my to-watch list. have been always prioritising my Youtube subscription videos above them since Youtube videos update very regularly.. much frequent than the shows/movies i follow. so yeah, little sense of accomplishment.

Swamp Thing. i am still a little upset that this show is only a season long with only 10 episodes. the current and only season airing has not been disappointing at all. it is a real shame to see it go after this, especially with such a decent cast.

Black Mirror. the latest season, while having only 3 episodes, still delivered the harsh truths and hidden ugly secrets of our current society or the potential of where we might be heading towards. while the themes explored are still rather appealing, in terms of storyline i think this season is less harsh, meaning some parts are a little predictable and endings might not be as daring as past seasons. nonetheless, i loved it. ironically, the best episode to me was the 2nd episode.. the one without a big name as the main cast.

America's Got Talent. gosh, i don't want to say anything else about the latest episode other than the fact that you have to watch Simon's golden buzzer performance. so many great moments in a short time span of 8 minutes.

actually, i have a little more update but that can wait a little longer.. maybe some time in the week ahead before the weekend. on to the second half of ICT. until next time then, cheers.

warm up & operation

yes this is an update of my life.

midway through this year's in-camp training. brain is almost dead and some parts of my body still aching a little.. signs of old age? nonetheless the past 5 days have been pretty good so far i guess. from meeting up with army buddies to eating good food together to clearing the bane of combat fit soldier, the IPPT test.

apart from those, the past week is more or less the little warm up for the next week where we will be back to doing simulated operations. quite a few things have changed and i am glad to say most of these changes are for the better.

of course, work do not stop just because i am in ICT. checked my work email couple of times to clear my inbox. glad i managed to do so since each time i did i had 50+. can't imagine if i wait until two Mondays from now to clear.. probably will be sandwiched by around 300 messages. still have quite a few things to update but shall keep them for tomorrow as my brain capacity for today only allow this much. until next time then, cheers.

Sunday, June 9, 2019

wearing green

yes this is an update of my life.

the past week was a 4-days work week but the workload seemed to be a full 5-days one. i guess this was slightly due to the fact that i had to clear quite a few things before i am away from office for two weeks. managed to clear what i set out to do. however, towards the end i was made known that i will be taking on a new kind of project really soon. excited since this kind of project is something i hoped to work on someday even though i do not have some of the technical knowledge on it.

well, then you might ask how the hell am i going to take it on? for starters, i will not be the "main lead" in this project. next, i am expected to learn and pick up new things when i come back into office towards the end of June. school ended but learning never ends.

that said, the two weeks away is not because i am on a holiday. i am wearing green and heading to Nee Soon camp for this year's high key in-camp training. may i pass my fitness test easily, especially when i started training way later this year. once this in-camp training is done.. back to office learning new things and leading an initiative before slowly counting down to the real holiday in August. until next time then, cheers.

irregular sleep

yes this is an update of my life.

Europa League and Champions League finals. these two events have been the cause of my very irregular sleep pattern lately. nonetheless, those wee hours matches have not concluded and i can adjust back to the regular sleep pattern i usually have.

the Europa League final results definitely weren't something i like but the match was way better than the Champions League final. the latter match was pretty boring most of the time with both sides launching ridiculous and inaccurate long passes. neither side seemed to want to win as a team. throughout the game, only a small handful of players seem to be hungry to win the trophy and they include the goalkeepers. Europa League final, though goalless in first half, was way more exciting and interesting.

well then, apart from football, the past week have been weird to say the least. ad-hoc requests and many curveballs at work, erotic weather, mini surprise. let's talk about the last point.. Trevor Noah added a 2nd show in Singapore and i am headed there. yes, my friends and i managed to get seats following our previous miss. excited.. yet another great event to look forward to in August.

this week is yet another 4-day work week.. also the last week before i head into this year's reservist training. until next time then, cheers.

fulfilling

yes this is an update of my life.

well, yes, a day late yet again. nonetheless, i am still keeping to my target of one proper update per week.. Sunday as much as i can. however, occasionally i'll be slightly late. this time it is due to a sleep debt incurred on Saturday night.

spent both days of the weekends really going out to enjoy myself and accomplishing stuff like planning for August holiday. inevitably, i slept too little on Saturday. had to went to bed earlier yesterday.

thought would be better today but no still a little tired. brain juice used up pretty quick at work as well. fingers crossed tonight's earlier sleep will do the trick. until next time then, cheers.

Monday over Friday

yes this is an update of my life.

today was a rather eventful Sunday. exploring the neighbourhood as usual and also had a great dinner with the family and grandma. most Sundays that are eventful would always lead to a slight reluctance to head to bed due to the fact that i know when i wake up, my brain would need to be hard a t work for the next 5 days of work. however, today is different.. thanks to the public holiday tomorrow. extended weekend is always great. somehow i realised that having a weekend ending later is better than having a weekend starting earlier due to a couple of reasons.

no Monday blues. the feeling you have at the start of a work week is really different from that you have at the end of the week. just imagine the joy and stress level you have on Friday against Monday.. for sure Monday would have more stress and less joy. so having this day as an extend day to the weekday boost mood more.

the feel of ending of the weekend when it just begun. with Monday as the extended weekend day, the Sunday will not be the "weekend started yesterday and now work starts tomorrow" day. the joy of knowing you have an extra day off on Monday sort of feels much better.

come to think of it, from this week to the week i have my reservist, i will be on a 4-days work week each week. not bad.. smart use of public holidays and leave i guess. nonetheless, when i rest, no everyone rest. just hoping the emails and tasks won't be too overwhelming. until next time then, cheers.

costly weekend

yes this is an update of my life.

pardon my unannounced abrupt absence last weekend. did not update on the previous Sunday as i set out to do at least every week. nonetheless, this update will be for the previous weekend and yes based on the title you might more or less get the super summarised version of it. spent about $400 within the course of two days last weekend.

apart from the usual errands and tuition class last Saturday, i made a much needed trip to the motorcycle workshop for the usual servicing. apart from the usual cheap spare parts i knew i had to change the rear brakes. however, what i did not anticipate changing was some wiring that was causing my throttle to get stuck now and then. yeah dangerous but i did not take huge notice of it since i have somewhat got used to it and was able to work around it. nonetheless, got it fixed in the end.. now even the acceleration seems to be better than before. not sure if it was due to the fix though. all in all, the trip cost me $180.

then came Sunday. arranged a dental check-up at a new clinic. this check-up was much needed too since it has been quite a while since i last visited the dentist but this clinic was a new experience for me. long story short, the service was really good and thorough but it came at a price. no major procedures were carried out (mostly routine stuff) but it cost me $240.

can't believe my check-up at the dentist is way more costly than my motorcycle repair/servicing. thank goodness for the slight bonus i had recently. this weekend, though long, should be less costly. until next time then, cheers.

55

yes this is an update of my life.

nice date today.. coincidentally making up my favourite number. well then, on to the quick update since i am somewhat exhausted. attended cousin's afternoon wedding lunch earlier today but had to wake up slightly after 5am for the tea ceremony and many other customary things/practices.

i guess i am in a transit state where people around my age start getting married after started working for around 5 years or less. maybe some quicker ones are planning for a kid or having one. meanwhile, i am still happily supporting myself. there bound to be relatives and older folks asking about my personal life and i realised as many variations i can give, my answers tend to surround one common idea. finding a partner isn't a priority now and probably never.

i dont know if that thought is suppose to scare me or what not. nonetheless, we prompted further, i do say this idea/decision gives me peace of mind. at least i know i will not rush into something that might be bound to fail. i probably am putting more weight on logic rather than feelings. well then, interesting to see if this mindset sticks or not. regardless, i am sure i will not mind it. until next time then, cheers.

dragon

yes this is an update of my life.

had a previously bad update couple days back as i was too caught up with other things on hand at that time to do a proper update. nonetheless, having an additional 2 days also help to recollect my thoughts and what not.

time is moving really fast.. it is nearly the halfway mark of the year 2019. yeah, just let that sink in for a moment. looking back at the past 5 months, indeed i have learned quite a lot of things.. more things than i would expect. many things changed or are changing.. some can be a little scary but i always hope that i can somehow adapt well.

speaking of adapting.. my physical self is taking a small toll from the need to adapt quick in the sudden change in pace the last few days. not 100% healthy.. just when i just started being serious about training for IPPT.. great. pace has been much quicker in recent days. not only from work side but also personal life.. so many things including an exciting day this weekend when one of my cousins will be hosting his wedding ceremony.

in terms of work, kind of disappointed one proposal did not really fall through. but hey i guess that is a learning point. such fallbacks bound to bring about sadness but in time i shall use this sadness as motivation. new employees joining the office add colours to the office days too. there is another one next week as well.

today was a much need rest day.. thankful for the public holiday exactly in the middle of the week. i am not sure if i mentioned this before.. but i think if we ever have a 3rd weekend day, i think Wednesday is the best day to have it on. did stock up my army supplies and enjoy my day out.. truly eventful and well-used holiday. now i am chilling with Two Steps From Hell's latest album "Dragon" to end a good Wednesday. until next time then, cheers.

half-week weekend

yes this is an update of my life.

long weekend but i am not done with my weekends. while most people would have a long 3-days weekend thanks to Good Friday, i will be having a 4-days weekend that extends until the end of tomorrow. that is literally slightly more than half a week of weekend. nice break.

so the past week has been rather eventful. colleagues visiting from the UK, new interns, new recruit, new project challenges. cannot explain much on the last thing other than the fact that one project have moved on to a different phase and another two new projects require proposal writing that i will be more involved for the first time. for the one moving on to a new phase, it is rather satisfying and thrilling to watch the project progress. at times, i tend to lose sight of the bigger picture but now seeing the bigger picture really does put some things in perspective. i'm excited. as for the proposals, the challenges are relatively new. i can feel myself really outside of my comfort zone but i guess this is part of the learning process.

weekend has been packed as always. of the many things i did so far, i would like to specially mention that i finally wash my bike again.. since Chinese New Year.. lol. should really make it a point to do so more often rather than waiting to a point where the filth starts to disturb me. will be heading out to Sentosa tomorrow as well for the Pokemon Go Safari Event. cannot wait.. to have fun and get myself burnt. until next time then, cheers.

winter is here

yes this is an update of my life.

slightly late update again.. little deviation from the Sunday date i usually give myself to have a proper update here. nonetheless, here i am, still intending to keep my personal aim of quality update post at least once per week.

Friday was a really shaky day last week.. got home thinking i can be happy and feel great for the weekend. ended up feeling crappy with a slight fever. little cold sweat broke, then i felt a little too dizzy when i stood up. rushed to brush teeth and took an early night. whole body felt really warm but managed to sweat the toxic out to wake up in the middle of the night.. to find my self (thankfully) much better. woke up just to replenish my water supply in my body.

thank goodness only wasted first half of the Saturday nursing my body. though i cannot say i am completely healed even now, at least i feel 90%. managed to rest and enjoy my weekends. short week ahead before another fun-filled weekend.

Monday started off rocky as well, with quite a few curveballs being hurled my way. so annoyed at my incapability to anticipate some of them at times. nonetheless, i guess i have dealt with them with my best possible capabilities.. fingers crossed. got an additional motivation to head home earlier on Mondays now.. the airing of the final season of "Game of Thrones". yes, winter is finally here. so will definitely avoiding the internet each Monday until i am caught up with the latest episode. until next time then, cheers.

charging issues

yes this is an update of my life.

another week, another weekend, another Sunday, a new week begins. i have a little charging issues.. both literally and metaphorically. literally being one of my portable charger is refusing to recharge for some unknown weird reason. my iphone charging speed is also a little questionable now.

as for metaphorically, my mind is still tired. tricky thing is as much as i want to make full use of my weekends, i want to sleep/rest more as well. unfortunately, it is pretty obvious which one i have been sacrificing. maybe the long weekend soon will help. in the meantime i am glad i making full use of my weekends.. catching up with friends, exploring places, spending time out with the family. these things even "took a toll" on my watching of shows and movies. i am slightly behind the shows/movies i am following or intend to watch soon.

i just realised that i am roughly 2 months away from reservist as well. i ought to begin training for the silly IPPT. until next time then, cheers.

slight delay

yes this is an update of my life.

one day late for a proper update but here i aim after a slight delay. in the blink of an eye, April is here. this month is going to be full of interesting things.. most things surrounding shows/movies that i follow. last season of "Game of Thrones". second season of "One Punch Man". second half of "Attack on Titan". release of "Avengers: Endgame". release of "Shazam". wondering if i missed out anything but this list is already good enough to get me excited for this month.

shows/movies aside, there is a long weekend as well. on top of that long weekend, i have extended it for another day so as to be part of an event related to PoGo. wonder how it will be. surprisingly, April in work is also exciting.. i heard 3 new people are joining us. there are other new personal milestones as well. fingers crossed projects run smoothly or at least smoother than the start of this year. until next time then, cheers.

circles

yes this is an update of my life.

not all problems/challenges are that straightforward. in fact, most aren't. at times you might find yourself wandering around in circles looking at all possible solutions and workings that can rectify the situation.. like the case of an escape room. well, i need to tell myself that at times.

can feel my mind is kind of intertwined in a lot of things lately. as much as i find some things can be easily solved, they are under greater scrutiny than initially expected. well, i guess this why people say disappointments arise from expectations. in such cases, they are indeed correct.

that aside, this week has been rather good with the weekends being even better. rather busy and occupied but this can be a good thing.. colours of the life. next weekend seems to be the first weekend that i will have a more quiet one than past weekends. nonetheless, i have to fight well this week first. have i had enough rest? probably not. am i ready? yes, i am eager to take down the problems and challenges set for me. until next time then, cheers.

by week

yes this is an update of my life.

what a week it has been. having an eventful week can be both a good and bad thing. bad would be receiving weird curve balls and what not. good would be life is never too boring. after couple of consecutive weeks of such lifestyle, i am beginning to question about my frequency of updating here.

after giving it quite some thought, i have decided to ensure that i update properly at last once a week. well, this might be destroying my 2019 resolution of updating more often. nonetheless, i still think this might be best way to ensure each update post is fill with good details. of course, if i can i will post more than once per week.

okay so work was busy and stressful. juggling multiple big data projects is really not a joke. but work aside, i am seeking personal growth. okay a part of this growth is related to work as well. my aim for growth is made up of many avenues but i am going to highlight just one which i think is the most crucial part.

masters. yes my mind has been set to take on masters in 2020. i have let my bosses know way way way in advance so that i am not serving an annoying curveball. this means i will be applying later this year. how exciting. until next time then, cheers.

needless hype

yes this is an update of my life.

finally heading to the theatres later to catch a movie. if you know me well, you would know where/how i usually watch my movies. nonetheless, this one is different since i cannot wait too long to watch it.

yes, Captain Marvel. heading to catch it soon but i cannot stop wondering if this will be another case of a movie having a needless hype.. a hype similar to the Wonder Woman origin story starring Gal Gadot. indeed it is really refreshing and nice to see female superheroes hosting their own origin stories but origin stories are still origin stories, they do not differ much from one another in terms of flow and style regardless of the sex of the superhero.

ohh well, let's see if this is indeed significantly better than other origin stories in a while. will definitely update here on it some time this week. until next time then, cheers.

0303

yes this is an update of my life.

been so caught up with things on hand that i have missed so many days to update here properly. in a blink of an eye, it is now March. my resolution of updating more here is not going very well.. it seems haha. nonetheless, on the bright side i have around 10 months to fix this.

so the past week was busy as usual.. just that the amount of stress was slightly higher than any normal week. nonetheless, sure had fun every now and then.. such as heading out for Swee Choon dinner with colleagues, trying the Tiger Sugar bubble tea for the first time, bidding farewell to a colleague leaving. okay the last one not exactly fun but rather it is something off the norm.. the only fun part was the lunch the company paid for.

this coming week look busier as well.. with more tasks on hand and more meetings. i guess while still young, "chiong-ing" in career path is still manageable given the limited amount of responsibilities i have outside work and the fact that my heart and mind are still young a healthier than a couple of years' time.

well, of course while i'm still somewhat young, i have to cross out some things off the bucket list. one of which is skydiving and this in the works of planning.. coming August 2019 i hope. until next time then, cheers.

lunar accountant

yes this is an update of my life.

now that CNY is officially over, work has been gaining back to normal.. or in certain areas, more than normal. i can feel my brain is literally squeezed beyond dry almost every single day. nonetheless, i guess having little challenges every now and then do get me on my feet. if things move too well and smoothly, i might just be bored to death. let's put that in record though.. who knows when i am the elder people in the workforce, say above 45, my mindset might change.

the week ahead seems to be rather packed as well. however, i am glad i have made full use of my weekends. well, while probably not resting as much as i think i should be in the past 2 days, i definitely managed to do things that i deemed worth cutting down on some rest.. and yes, that includes playing Pokemon Go since there was a 3-hour event earlier today.

in my defence, i did do other more useful things as well. the most useful thing cost the most as well. $100 to be specific.. it was used to change my motorcycle tyre. gosh, so expensive but then again, nothing is more expensive than safety. did manage to be accountant for just once per year as well. given CNY is over, i have gotten whatever red packets that i could get. the numbers have been counted and dream on if you think i am going to say it here. i wonder how many more years i can still get to receive them haha. until next time then, cheers.

end of heat

yes this is an update of my life.

past week had been a really busy one. there were new challenges but i am so glad that the week ended on a pretty decent note. this weekend was minimal break but it is expected since it is within the CNY period. i have been putting on a little of weight throughout the past 12 days of celebration and given the short time span with the not so small weight gain, i think i ought to be running way more real soon.

apart from weight gain, my wallet weight has increased as well. managed to get my losses back and win a little more. CNY is ending.. i doubt we will be playing more so i can declare a win in this CNY period then. 5th year in a row. may this streak not end.. i don't care if the winnings are small.. i just want to maintain this streak.. haha.

the terrible hot and humid weather moved aside to usher in heavy rain earlier as well. really nice to have some rain after what it seems like months without it (though i think it could actually be a month of two since the last downpour). looking forward to the week ahead. until next time then, cheers.

-1, 0, 1

yes this an update of my life.

here's wishing all my chinese readers a very Happy Lunar New Year! may the year of the pig be a great one for you.. filled with fun, joy and laughter. may you buy 4D/Toto and win a little from the government. may those who are studying score good results. may those who are working get bigger bonus.

over the past few days, my life can be somewhat summarised in three numbers.. yes, the numbers -1, 0 and 1. while i can't reveal some parts as to why, i will explain as much as i possibly can.

status -1. the usual "ritual" of putting quick thinking/calculating, probability and money management are put to test during the 15 days of CNY every year. i have not lost in quite a number of years at the end of each CNY period. so going into the first three/four days this year, i somehow landed on a slight deviation of the past trends. as of now i lost $1. haha.. yeah very small sum.. though i don't play small sums.. it just so happened after the three/four days of "investments" as the wins and losses cancel one another out.. i lost just $1. no worries.. there is still quite some time to work on it.

status 0. okay, this one i cannot really say so much. unless you know me and are close to me, chances are you will never know the full story about it. to my close friends who do not know, it is probably because i haven't seen you since last week? haha.. anyway, in brief, it relates to something i had hoped for for quite some time but i found myself not back at square one but rather square zero. back to nothingness but i am determined to work my way up again. i don't mind falling so long the fall is justified/fair.

status 1. okay this is a little funny. i measured my weight prior to the CNY holidays and did so again minutes ago. i have gained 1kg in one week.. hmm.. maybe time to eat more healthily for the next couple of weeks. wait, who am i kidding? i shall wait until after CNY. so glad to have eaten so many good food over the past few days.

so that's that.. my 7-days break in a nutshell. tomorrow is my Monday and my Friday. probably going to head back to office to clear the emails for a third of the time before going back to the weekend of visiting. until next time then, cheers.

pig out

yes this is an update of my life.

it is evening time and yet the weather is terribly hot and humid. i am sweating like a pig. what a way to usher in the year of the pig in a few minutes time.

in the blink of eye, another lunar year has past by and here comes the new lunar new year. the time to gamble, drink, feast and pig out is upon us. okay i shall stop with the pig puns. but here is to a better year ahead. until next time then, cheers.

tanned

yes this is an update of my life.

the last few days have been so damn hot. well, good that i get to ride my motorcycle without rain but it is really painful to feel the scorching heat on my arms. even with my arm sleeves on, my skin is getting tanned. my oh my.

that aside, reason i have been moving around is due to the fact that CNY is coming. on top of the usual reasons i ride my motorcycle around the neighbourhood, i have been meeting old friends and running small errands for the family. probably can rest after tomorrow. cannot wait for the start of gambling days to begin. may my winning streak continue. until next time then, cheers.

saturation point

yes this is an update of my life.

the past week has been quite a rollercoaster ride. mini shocks and fun times.. all in the past week. nonetheless, this weekend has been somewhat insufficient for my to cure my brain that was beyond the saturation point on Friday night. i can still feel there are things on mind that have yet to be "cleaned".

mini shocks. sometime in the middle of the week, while we were discussing on one of the projects i am working on, a can of worms was opened, sending few of us in a little panic. to be honest, i doubt the little panic is yet to be resolved entirely. the scarier thing is this could potentially affect another project. another mini shock was a last minute meeting/interview that i found out. thank goodness i was somewhat ready for it. nonetheless the short notice period isn't good for the mind and heart.. glad i handle as well as i could.

fun times. managed to unwind quite a bit on Friday night through teaching of mahjong to my fellow colleagues. really nice to see everyone having fun while picking up something really foreign to most of them, especially for those who are unfamiliar with the chines characters on the tiles. the past two days of weekend has been good as well. been productive and relaxing. of course, weekends are never enough at times.

a brief look forward revealed that this week will not be a monotonous ride. with existing mini shocks required to be dealt with, there are many things to look forward to. heading back to NUS for the Career Fest 2019 and reunion dinner with secondary school friends at the end of the week. 4 days work week before i am off for break through the CNY for a week. may my saturated brain heal. until next time then, cheers.

weak kids

came across yet another interesting article recently. this one is shorter than previous ones i shared. nonetheless still an interesting read on why kids these days might seem slightly weak. well, of course, this is a really bold generalisation. i would think, or maybe choose to believe for the sake of everyone, that this group is a minority. anyway, the link is here, enjoy reading.

i'll take my chances

yes this is an update of my life.

proud to say i have managed to settle some personal stuff over the past week. the next two weeks will be a little challenge as well but i shall paused and celebrate personal gains and milestones before diving head on into the next the weeks of challenges. cannot really go into details but all i can say is i'll take my chances on any present opportunities. what is life without a little bit of a gamble now and then?

now then, i personally find the biggest thing that happened in the past couple of days was the announcement my boss made regarding certain shifts the will be happening in the near future. well, nothing really bad just part and parcel of growth i guess. i just am still accepting the facts i guess. not sure how to feel but yeah still processing all the information/news he gave in the past week. good thing about this company is that it ever undergoing rigorous growth and improvement. there is always something to look forward to.

moving on to wardrobe update, i managed to placed my orders for the last few tops for the upcoming CNY. only 1 of the 4 has made it to my house. am waiting excitedly for the remaining 3 to arrive.. hopefully soon.. so that there is ample time to wash and what not before CNY. until next time then, cheers.

hard

yes this is an update of my life.

long week but glad the weekends are here. last weekend was hectic and the past weekdays have been taxing on the brain, especially the last 2 days. i am just glad to have a slightly slower and less eventful weekend this week.

need some time to check on the many things i am juggling. i find myself question if i am trying too hard or working too hard for my own good. "working" not necessarily mean going to office that "working". some people might call the entire process as adulting.. i can't think of a better word or phrase to explain it so let's stick to that generic term for now. so yes, time to ownself check ownself for a couple of days. until next time then, cheers.

the need to shop

yes this is an update of my life.

was having a rather interesting conversation with my mum earlier over dinner. as CNY draws near, many are looking to get the usual stuff like abalone, new clothes, new shoes and many many other things. one constant throughout the many years in my family is new clothes.. regardless of how unwilling i am to get new clothes, i will get sick of my mum's nagging and buy couple of new ones.

so, this year was no different.. earlier i decided to challenge her ideology again. after couple of prompts she commented that the reason why one should get new clothes for CNY is to boost self-esteem. my immediate reaction was to laugh. i don't know i should feel sorry for my self or not because i couldn't view it in that light. if i do not wear new clothes during CNY, my self-esteem takes no blow. even if i wear new clothes, i do not feel an increase in self-esteem as well. i think there is a higher chance of me getting irritated at wearing new clothes that i might have gotten the wrong size or the material wasn't as great as i expected.

nonetheless, to appease the queen, i shall snoop around and see where i end up. no.. the need to shop isn't for self-esteem but rather self-protection from the nagging. until next time then, cheers.

fixing 2018 in 2019

yes this is an update of my life.

well, form the title you can guess that i have some things to fix this year. nothing major just small personal goals i wish to achieve. couple of weeks back i promised to get the post on my journey to getting my 2B license out before 2019. unfortunately, i could not uphold to that promise and ended up posting it on the first day of 2019 instead.

in a similar light, the personal goal i am about to share is more or less the goal each year. posting more than the previous year. well, obviously 2018 did not see me achieving this. in 2019, this should be easier i guess.. since the number of posts last year was.. ehh.. meh. nonetheless, as i strive to achieve this in 2019, i shall try to maintain the juicy stuff and what not.. avoid plain old sharing of good music and what not all too often. until next time then, cheers.

journey to 2B

having gotten my 2B license recently, i figured that i ought to roughy write out the journey to obtaining the license from Kampong Ubi Training Centre, or more commonly known as ComfortDelGro Driving Centre. from what i understand, other places offer slightly different lesson structure.. nonetheless, the obstacle courses are the same.

i opened my driving lesson account late February 2018 and passed the traffic police test on the first try early September 2018. took longer than i hoped due to my transition from an undergraduate to a working adult in between.. plus some incident happening in June. nonetheless, i believe and know of some who start and clear all within 3 to 4 months. however, note that this is a really rough gauge.. since i heard most people, assuming they do not have any prior driving license, would take around half a year to clear.

this post will breakdown into three main portions: the theory lessons, the practical lessons, traffic police test.

theory lessons

i have class 3 license so i did not have to go for teh BTT lessons and test. from what i remembered, now you have to go for 4 lessons of BTT classes and an internal evaluation before the actual BTT test. for FTT, similar.. 4 classes and an internal evaluation. prior to practical lesson 6, you are expect to clear 3 lessons of defensive riding courses as well. these courses are not test but it is compulsory to attend them.

practical lessons

lesson 1: you will learn to the correct techniques to accelerate, brake and change gears. it is like being taught a completely new skill (in most people's cases, it is). you will be made to go back and forth on the motorbike before progress to making laps around a small area before finally going to making laps around the school.
lesson 2: you will learn to change lanes and make left/right turns within a small compound of the school, obeying the traffic lights and rules.
lesson 3: you will learn to clear the slope, figure of 8 under 11 seconds, crank course under 6 seconds.
lesson 4: you will learn to stay on the balancing beam for at least 6 seconds, clear the pylon slalom course under 6 seconds before moving to the emergency break portion.
lesson 5: personally, i find this lesson the most challenging to clear. you are assessed using all the circuit courses and you cannot score above 10 demerit points. you will be let off for one dry run before the real internal evaluation. every point counts, try not to lose points due to timings since they are very particular to small mistakes such as blind spot checking and wobbling.
lesson 6: pre-ride checks and familiarisation to the road. first lesson in public road so just follow instructions and you should pass on the first try.
lesson 7: road lesson as well but this time you learn to do a proper U-turn.
lesson 8: mock traffic police test. enough said.. just a min point to add on is that how you are penalised in this lesson is probably more lenient than the actual test.
circuit revision: more or less own time own target kind of thing. if it is your very first circuit revision ever, you will ba advised to sit and listen to the instructor's advices. he/she will got through the key points of the circuit that people usually throw points away. this is probably the only time to really ask any questions you may have since stuff you learned in the first few lessons might slip your mind by then.
road revision: an instructor will lead you out to the test route in the public roads after a warm up round in the circuit. both time you all will be in front, the instructor will be at the back. after each round, upon your return to the circuit, the instructor will point out your areas of improvement. if there is still time left after the two rounds out, you can do the circuit revision until time is up.

traffic police test

we were told to report before 7am if i remembered right despite the fact that the actual test will only start around 9am. this is due to a couple reasons i guess: many riders taking test, registration takes time, limited bikes to go around for the warm up.
now then, warm up is only one round and you can feel that things are moving with high time urgency. quite hectic and what not. instructors will also squeeze in final pointers and words of encouragement before the testers come down. do listen to all instructions really carefully.. especially those pertaining to how not to be wrongfully disqualified due to suspicion of cheating.
circuit sequence is the same as revision lessons, just that you do not get to choose the bike you will be taking.. so better get used to it fast or hope the clutch control is to your liking. the testers are very particular about all the small faults. wobbling, delay in moving off etc.
those with immediate failure in circuit will not move on to the public portion. note that, even if you get too high points in circuit, you most likely will still be allowed out so long you have not committed any immediate failure faults. timing during road portion is bad since it is a weekday morning with heavy traffic. just be patient and do not rush.
once everything is done, you will have to sit in a room and hope your name isn't called out.. if it is, chances are you have failed the test. after passing, their is also an expressway familiarisation course. just enjoy the course and follow all instructions clearly.

all in all, i spent roughly $1.3k including registration fees, gear costs and lesson fees. i understand this might be slightly higher than average and i am not that surprised. i repeated most lessons prior to lesson 6 and spammed quite a few revision lessons. at the end of the day, all worth it since i passed on my first try. well then, good luck riders!
