ST3236 review (NUS)

DISCLAIMER: firstly, i am not a professional writer, so if there are mistakes in my language, move on. secondly, the review is mostly based on opinions, so i would advise you to google for more reviews to get a diverse take on the modules you are interested in. thirdly, module details change every semester, so do not expect every assessment will stick. last but not the least, i will not talk about grades. hope this is useful for you, cheers.

what do you learn?

you will be introduced to processes such as discrete-time Markov chains. features of these chains like irreducibility and what not will be introduced to you. you will be made familiar to other terms such as recurrence and transience as well. thereafter, there will be Kernel methods as well.

assessments?

the module grades based on one personal assignment and finals.

my personal opinion?

the nature of the the content of this module is very difficult and confusing as well. the assignment is slightly challenging. as for finals, i would say it really depends the lecturer for a given semester. for mine, it was taught under a statistics professor who set the paper based heavily on examples and tutorial questions. this led to finals being more of a cheatsheet battle rather than a test of understanding and intelligence. this is probably the most painful level 3000 statistics module that i have ever taken so far.
