DISCLAIMER: firstly, i am not a professional writer, so if there are mistakes in my language, move on. secondly, the review is mostly based on opinions, so i would advise you to google for more reviews to get a diverse take on the modules you are interested in. thirdly, module details change every semester, so do not expect every assessment will stick. last but not the least, i will not talk about grades. hope this is useful for you, cheers.
what do you learn?
one gets to learn epidemiology concepts that range from study designs to calculations and deductions. you will be introduced to terms such as odds, risk, sensitivity, specificity and what not. you will get to learn roughly how an actual epidemiological study is conducted through the group project. you will learn quite a lot of calculation methods as well.. though just being good a math will not help you to score in this module.
assessments?
students are graded through group project, participation of randomised controlled trial, tutorial quizzes, tutorial attendance and finals.
my personal opinion?
this module is one of the most interesting modules i have taken in NUS thus far due to the nature of some of their assessments. like for the group project, we get to head out to interview some staff before coming together to work on the written submission. the tutorial quizzes are very tricky and i realised it is rather crucial to actually score full marks for them. yes, the bell curve is very steep for this module. the calculations and concepts taught in this module are very simple. tutorials are alternate weeks and lectures are rather chill. due to the nature of the bell curve, minimise careless mistakes in quizzes and finals.

Hi
ReplyDeleteI came across your review online and I saw that u took SPH2101 previously.
I’m currently planning on taking this module and would love to have some additional resources (lecture, tutorial notes, past year papers, quizzes and assignments, book).
Could you kindly share your materials (files/folder) with me? I’d really appreciate it, truly.
If there’s anything I can do for you in return, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Thank you very much!
