ST3233 review (NUS)

DISCLAIMER: firstly, i am not a professional writer, so if there are mistakes in my language, move on. secondly, the review is mostly based on opinions, so i would advise you to google for more reviews to get a diverse take on the modules you are interested in. thirdly, module details change every semester, so do not expect every assessment will stick. last but not the least, i will not talk about grades. hope this is useful for you, cheers.

what do you learn?

obviously, in this module, you will be dealing with all time series data and the numerous ways in handling and analysing them. you will be introduced to models such as ARIMA models with algorithms like Holt's and Holt-Winter's algorithms. prior to these, you will learn who to identify a stationary time series.

assessments?

for this module, the assessments vary greatly from one lecturer to another. for the semester that i took it, we were graded on 3 group assignments, midterms and finals.

my personal opinion?

this module is a very useful model for it touches on time series data which most other statistics modules do not exactly use. time series data is commonly used outside as well and i think it is rather important to have at least a rough idea and foundation on how to deal with them. the assignments can be rather time consuming but being group effort, they are good avenues to really learn and try whatever ideas you can have in dealing with time series data. these assignments in a way allow a freedom to explore. exams for this module can be challenging though.
