DISCLAIMER: firstly, i am not a professional writer, so if there are mistakes in my language, move on. secondly, the review is mostly based on opinions, so i would advise you to google for more reviews to get a diverse take on the modules you are interested in. thirdly, module details change every semester, so do not expect every assessment will stick. last but not the least, i will not talk about grades. hope this is useful for you, cheers.

ST3131: Regression Analysis

what do you learn?

remember days in secondary school where you learn y=mx+c straight lines? yeah this is the slightly more complicated version of that. okay i make it sound too easy. while it is relatively easier as compared to other modules, the stuff you learn include simple linear regression, multiple linear regression and generalised linear model. you get to learn how to carry out regression analysis via various means. 

how are you being graded?

you are being graded through midterms, group project and finals. in terms of weightage, each weight varies from semester to semester and from module coordinator to module coordinator.

my take on this module?

this module, personally, is relatively easy as compared to other level 3000 statistics module. hell, might even be easier than some of the lower level modules. the concepts being taught are not that difficult to not understand and what not. tutorials prepared you well for the exam papers. as for the group project, i think it provides me with the chance to actually try out all that i have learned in this module on a real data. as the scope of the module is narrowed to regression analysis, finding a suitable data might be challenging for some. my group took quite some time before settling on our final one. this module is well-known for a fairly steep bell curve as well.. just letting you take note.

advices?

make minimal mistakes. this is a module that even half or one mark makes quite an impact. i know of people who did equally well with the CAs but somehow our grades differ quite a bit. so i guess what define your grades would be mainly your careless mistakes. read the questions carefully. piece of advice for your cheatsheet is to copy tutorial examples. of course, get those general important formulas down but most of your space would be examples. like i mentioned earlier, tutorial questions are useful in your preparation. reading of lecture notes.. not so much.
