halftime 2019

yes this is an update of my life.

a sudden realisation hit me earlier today.. we are literally halfway through 2019. what have you accomplished so far this year?

ever since days in NUS, i really cannot comprehend how time fly by year after year. each year i will tell myself to keep a mental note that time will fly but each year i will always be taken by surprised by how fast time really is. regardless, the only good thing i can take away is that i don't feel like i wasted the time that has passed. this gut feeling probably will serve as a good indicator of whether i am making use of each day given to me.

so what have i accomplished? right after each surprise, i will have that question in my head. don't worry.. i'm not going to highlight those here because those are for my own mental note (and probably no wanting to leak any shortcomings in the process.. haha). but yeah, halftime check.

for me, as i look to the next 6 months, there is so much more to anticipate. of which, i have highlighted some in the previous post. may we all continue to scale to greater heights as time continues to zoom by. until next time then, cheers.

8 years too long

yes this is an update of my life.

back to office after being away on in-camp training (ICT) this week. first week back and i was playing catch-up for almost the entire week. am excited to be working on few new avenues of my career as well.

one, new statistical method and project. learning never ends. i intend to always keep doing so as long as i am below 50. that's is why i am my plan to take on Masters really soon. apart from that, i am grateful my company has given me the opportunity to learn from my other colleagues on a new channel of dealing with a special "breed" of projects. tons of reading and applying. the slope is steep but that pinch of challenge is always something i adore.

two, cross-office visit. on track to be part of some exchange programme that has been set up recently in my company.. which means i get to travel to the UK (hopefully) really soon. if this were to really come true, i am really excited to meet in person with those people whom i have been working through Skype only. i am also excited to be able to travel to some place new.

third, pro-bono initiative. the first ever pro-bono initiative ended yesterday with blood donation with few of my colleagues. it has been a long 8 years since i last donated blood. the staff was questioning me why it took me so long to go back.. well, his guilt trip struck a chord.. haha. i am impressed with how painless the process was. i remembered being a little uncomfortable 8 years ago. who knows.. maybe tons of things have improved and i am now motivated to donate as often as my body is able to.

well then yet another weekend to catch up with my personal time and recharge before taking on another week that would seem to be challenging. until next time then, cheers.

tyler

yes this is an update of my life.

well this update is sort of the continuation of the previous post i did yesterday. too many things to highlight but my brain did not have the capacity and energy to do so back then so here i am again, topping it up.

of course, moving away from the chat about ICT and work email, and before i go on further, Happy Father's Day to all fathers and fathers-to-be out there. okay, back to business. managed to caught up with the shows and movies i have on my to-watch list. have been always prioritising my Youtube subscription videos above them since Youtube videos update very regularly.. much frequent than the shows/movies i follow. so yeah, little sense of accomplishment.

Swamp Thing. i am still a little upset that this show is only a season long with only 10 episodes. the current and only season airing has not been disappointing at all. it is a real shame to see it go after this, especially with such a decent cast.

Black Mirror. the latest season, while having only 3 episodes, still delivered the harsh truths and hidden ugly secrets of our current society or the potential of where we might be heading towards. while the themes explored are still rather appealing, in terms of storyline i think this season is less harsh, meaning some parts are a little predictable and endings might not be as daring as past seasons. nonetheless, i loved it. ironically, the best episode to me was the 2nd episode.. the one without a big name as the main cast.

America's Got Talent. gosh, i don't want to say anything else about the latest episode other than the fact that you have to watch Simon's golden buzzer performance. so many great moments in a short time span of 8 minutes.

actually, i have a little more update but that can wait a little longer.. maybe some time in the week ahead before the weekend. on to the second half of ICT. until next time then, cheers.

warm up & operation

yes this is an update of my life.

midway through this year's in-camp training. brain is almost dead and some parts of my body still aching a little.. signs of old age? nonetheless the past 5 days have been pretty good so far i guess. from meeting up with army buddies to eating good food together to clearing the bane of combat fit soldier, the IPPT test.

apart from those, the past week is more or less the little warm up for the next week where we will be back to doing simulated operations. quite a few things have changed and i am glad to say most of these changes are for the better.

of course, work do not stop just because i am in ICT. checked my work email couple of times to clear my inbox. glad i managed to do so since each time i did i had 50+. can't imagine if i wait until two Mondays from now to clear.. probably will be sandwiched by around 300 messages. still have quite a few things to update but shall keep them for tomorrow as my brain capacity for today only allow this much. until next time then, cheers.

wearing green

yes this is an update of my life.

the past week was a 4-days work week but the workload seemed to be a full 5-days one. i guess this was slightly due to the fact that i had to clear quite a few things before i am away from office for two weeks. managed to clear what i set out to do. however, towards the end i was made known that i will be taking on a new kind of project really soon. excited since this kind of project is something i hoped to work on someday even though i do not have some of the technical knowledge on it.

well, then you might ask how the hell am i going to take it on? for starters, i will not be the "main lead" in this project. next, i am expected to learn and pick up new things when i come back into office towards the end of June. school ended but learning never ends.

that said, the two weeks away is not because i am on a holiday. i am wearing green and heading to Nee Soon camp for this year's high key in-camp training. may i pass my fitness test easily, especially when i started training way later this year. once this in-camp training is done.. back to office learning new things and leading an initiative before slowly counting down to the real holiday in August. until next time then, cheers.

irregular sleep

yes this is an update of my life.

Europa League and Champions League finals. these two events have been the cause of my very irregular sleep pattern lately. nonetheless, those wee hours matches have not concluded and i can adjust back to the regular sleep pattern i usually have.

the Europa League final results definitely weren't something i like but the match was way better than the Champions League final. the latter match was pretty boring most of the time with both sides launching ridiculous and inaccurate long passes. neither side seemed to want to win as a team. throughout the game, only a small handful of players seem to be hungry to win the trophy and they include the goalkeepers. Europa League final, though goalless in first half, was way more exciting and interesting.

well then, apart from football, the past week have been weird to say the least. ad-hoc requests and many curveballs at work, erotic weather, mini surprise. let's talk about the last point.. Trevor Noah added a 2nd show in Singapore and i am headed there. yes, my friends and i managed to get seats following our previous miss. excited.. yet another great event to look forward to in August.

this week is yet another 4-day work week.. also the last week before i head into this year's reservist training. until next time then, cheers.
